We house only a small number of cats and spend a lot of time with each one to ensure their physical and emotional needs are met with comfort, attention, and expert oversight throughout their stay.

Every cat enjoys daily one-on-one cuddle and play time, whether it’s chasing a toy or relaxing with gentle pats.
Veterinary Services
We offer access to full veterinary services, either on-site or, when needed, at Nelson Vet Clinic.
Premium Care, Tailored to Your Cat
Every cat is different. So is every stay.
We always make sure your cat is feeling well, but for elderly, recovering, or medically fragile cats - such as those with diabetes or requiring daily medication - we provide extra one-on-one care and monitoring.
These guests stay in specially set-up suites designed to reduce stress and accommodate limited mobility, with reduced vertical space if needed.

Dr. Melanie Zwiener
Licensed veterinarian
Melanie is a licensed veterinarian with over 20 years’ experience. While she doesn’t provide veterinary procedures through the cattery directly, we offer access to the full range of veterinary services—either on-site as a formal house call or at Nelson Vet Clinic, where she practises. Her expertise ensures professional care protocols are followed, and any treatment needed is delivered quickly and safely.
Melanie’s passion for feline health is what makes our cat hotel unique. Whether it’s a healthy, elderly, or medically fragile cat, she provides the professional attention and compassion they need.
Michael Zwiener
NZ Certificate in Cat Welfare
Michael Zwiener has been a lifelong advocate for cat welfare and protection. From growing up with cats to fostering and caring for those in need, his commitment runs deep. Michael actively volunteers at the SPCA in Nelson and continues to expand his knowledge through formal training, including the NZ Certificate in Cat Welfare (ANCN6015).
At Nelson Cat Hotel, he’s turning decades of passion into purpose—creating a place where every cat, including those with special needs, receives personalised, loving care. With a background in IT, paramedicine, and management, Michael ensures every detail runs smoothly, and every cat is safe, calm, and well looked after.
